As a global financial institution and industry leader, Citi takes pride in its commitment to the communities in which we live and work. We are a global business, providing financial services in over 140 countries. We operate in ways that improve the health of societies where we have a presence.

How WE Empower Others

At Citi, responsible finance is the core of our mission, part of our culture and the transformative framework around which we build our businesses, engage employees, serve customers and lead the industry. Whether it’s our business practices or our efforts to build a financial system that creates economic value, promotes common goals, and harmonizes private and public interest both locally and globally, responsible finance is at the heart of all we do.

We understand the special responsibility we have, and aim through all our actions to create economic value and drive opportunity. A major part of that commitment is the work we do to improve the communities in which we live and work. With business activities in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions, Citi brings significant resources to bear as we work to achieve economic empowerment and growth for underserved individuals, families and communities.

From affordable housing to sustainable economic development to financial education, Citi’s community development work builds upon the company’s 200-year history of service, success, and leadership.

In California in 2009, Citi and the Citi Foundation contributed nearly $8 million to non-profit organizations, while Citi employees in the state volunteered more than 6,400 hours.

To improve the lives of individuals and families in California, Citi also works closely with many partners across the state, including Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, TELACU, Skid Row Housing Trust and many, many more.

Citi has received numerous awards and recognition for commitment to the community in California. In 2009 alone, Citi was awarded Asset Builder of the Year by Earn; Corporation of the Year by the Alameda Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Corporate Achievement Award by the 100 Black Men of the Bay Area; Corporation of the Year from West Contra Costa Business Development Center; and Corporate Partner of the Year by the Chinatown Service Center.
