Dr. Harumitsu Inouye is the Chief Executive Officer of Shinnyo-en Foundation. As one of its founding members, Haru was instrumental in expanding the undertakings and scope of the Foundation from its humble beginnings into an organization that touches many thousands of people. Founded in San Francisco as the US secular philanthropic arm of the international Shinnyo-en Buddist Order, the organization carries out its activities in line with its motto “Give, Grow, Transform” by striving to give to others, grow everyday through service to others, and transform lives and the world into a more peaceful and harmonious one. The Foundation is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
Born and raised in Fukuoka, Japan, Haru came to the United States as a student and received an Ed.D. in International and Multicultural Education from the University of San Francisco. Prior to his role at the Foundation Director, Haru worked as an intercultural communications specialist between U.S. and Japan at a leading high-tech company in Silicon Valley.
In recent years the Foundation has launched a new initiative called the Six Billion Paths to Peace which represents the idea that it is possible for all six billion people on the face of this earth to bring about harmony, through reflection on daily actions and individual commitment to inspire new reverberations of peace around the world. Going forth Six Billion Paths to Peace will be the underlying philosophy in the selection of Foundation grantees and activities. Haru is committed to encouraging the power of individuals and individual action to bring peace and harmony to local communities and to the world.
