Farai Chideya is a media Jaquetta of all trades. She hosts NPR's "News and Notes," a daily program about African-American and African diaspora issues that airs nationwide. Broadcast from NPR West in Culver City, California, this award-winning show has one of the most diverse audiences on public radio.
Chideya has written four books. "Don't Believe the Hype: Fighting Cultural Misinformation About African Americans"; "The Color of Our Future"; and "Trust: Reaching the 100 Million Missing Voters" are all nonfiction and all taught on college campuses across the country. Her fourth book is the novel "Kiss the Sky," a sexy-yet-serious story about a Harvard-educated black rock 'n roll singer making a comeback. Atria, a division of Simon and Schuster, will publish the book in May of 2009.
Chideya also founded Pop and Politics Multimedia. This nonprofit trains journalism students on the University of Southern California campus in multimedia journalism, journalism ethics, and social responsibility; and it produces PopandPolitics.com. PopandPolitics.com, founded in 1995, is now one of the oldest continually operating blogs. Pop and Politics Multimedia is coordinating extensive youth-oriented coverage of the 2008 elections.
