Best known as the title character in the popular series “Punky Brewster”, Soleil Moon Frye has made a smooth transition from beloved child star to seasoned television veteran. Born and raised in Los Angeles in an entertainment household, Soleil began acting at the age of 5. In the years following “Punky Brewster”, Frye moved to New York City to attend The New School for Social Research, studying psychology, literature and drama.
Frye has since returned to the film business, directing features, guest starring on various television shows and lending her voice to a number of animated series.
Concern for the environment has always been at the forefront of Frye’s mind. Growing up with a free-spirited mother, her family spent much of her childhood nature-bound; she frequented Big Bear, Idaho, and called Topanga Canyon’s chaparral covered hillsides home.
About 8 years ago, Frye got involved with the Environmental Media Association and is currently a sitting board member. Soleil believes in EMA’s mission to spread the message of environmental stewardship through the media in efforts to connect with the next generation of business leaders and consumers. Frye’s love of nature is rivaled only by her love for children. After the birth of her daughter, Poet, Soleil was able to view her passion for the environment in a whole new context; motherhood had given her living proof that environmental responsibility doesn’t end with her. Her daughter’s birth inspired her to create something lasting.
Her inspiration, coupled with a frustration at finding non-toxic children’s products for her daughter, provided Frye with the vision she needed for her next venture. The timing was right for her and her partner Paige to create a one-stop shop for every baby’s eco-friendly needs, The Little Seed. The Little Seed is becoming a household name for families everywhere. They recently partnered with Target to create a stylish affordable and accessible clothing line. The Little Seed for Target is going nationwide this summer and will also be on Target.com.
Soleil gave birth to another baby girl named Jagger in 2008 and soon found her way reaching out to moms through social media. She became a leader in new media by gaining over 1.4 million followers on twitter, 100,000 fans on Facebook, and she has just launched her own network through Ning called Moonfrye. Soleil reaches out to millions of people on a daily basis. She is a true momtrepeneur.
Soleil is also an advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association. She was personally effected by her father who suffers from the disease and traveled cross country directing the award winning documentary “Sonny Boy”. This year Soleil is receiving both the Caregiver award at “Night At Sardis” and “TheYoung Champions Award” in Washington D.C. at The National Alzheimer’s Gala for her fight to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s.
