Susan Ewing, PharmD, is senior vice president, Innovation for Walgreen Co., where she leads the business development and strategy of innovation.
Ms. Ewing has more than 20 years of healthcare experience in the areas of retail pharmacy and managed care. Her career at Walgreens began with a focus on store operations as a pharmacist and then pharmacy supervisor. Because of her ability and leadership skills she was promoted to the Deerfield, IL, headquarters where she served in a number of leadership roles that broadened her knowledge of the managed care industry. These roles included director of managed care sales, vice president of specialty pharmacy operations and senior vice president of managed care sales and contracting, where she led the entire managed care sales and contracting effort. Most recently she led the business development and strategy of Walgreens Health Services division as senior vice president, Business Development and Strategy and chief of staff to the president of Walgreens Health Services. These leadership roles helped her to build a strong knowledge base in payor and operational relations, which will provide her with the broad expertise needed to lead the strategy of Walgreens innovation.
Ms. Ewing received a doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinois in 1995.
She is a member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
