At Target, giving back to the communities we serve is a tradition that goes back many years. Since 1946, we’ve given 5 percent of our income to support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today that equals more than $3 million every week.
Minneapolis-based Target serves guests at 1,699 stores nationwide and online at Target.com by delivering today’s best retail trends at affordable prices. In California alone, Target operates 240 stores and six distribution centers, employing more than 60,000 team members.
Target believes in the power of partnerships to foster creativity, inspire learning and build stronger communities. In addition to the thousands of grants that Target stores provide locally, Target has developed signature programs that are designed to inspire learning and enlighten children and families including Take Charge of Education®, a school fundraising program and Target Field Trip Grants, a program that helps educators bring learning to life for students.
Since 1997, Target has donated more than $260 million to more than 75 percent of K-12 schools nationwide through Take Charge of Education, including nearly 10,000 in California. With Target Field Trip Grants, more than 1,000 K-12 schools in California received grants, reaching nearly 80,000 students. In addition to financial support, Target team members and retirees, along with their families and friends, contribute millions of volunteer hours to community-based projects.
Target is proud to continue our support of the Minerva Awards as part of The Women’s Conference. By recognizing the outstanding contributions of local women and encouraging women to succeed, the Minerva Awards further Target’s commitment to strengthening families and communities throughout the state of California.
