The CEO is a well known position of power, but what some people don’t know is that it takes a village to make a business run smoothly. More than 40% of the world’s leading companies have a second in command position, taking the title of the COO. This position typically has a very adaptable job description, helping the CEO with any needs they may have, and tending to any issues that may arise elsewhere.
There are several different types of COOs existing in the industry. However, all people filling this role will be able to think on their feet, stay organized, and push the company forward. It is because of these qualities that finding a true COO is rare. However, there has been a recent resurgence in COO presence in the past few years.
Despite this shift, there are many issues that are preventing people in this role from thriving. Many companies are currently suffering the cost of not properly training their COOs with COO coaching. Without this training these second-in-commands are not able to properly support the needs of the company, slowing down workflow and other processes. Although there is much progress to be made, the power of a true second-in-command is unmatched in today’s corporate landscape.
