Encryption Is Punching Holes In Traditional Network Security

Cyberattacks are on the rise as companies around the world are struggling to detect threats hidden within encrypted traffic. There were 1.5 times as many ransomware attacks in 2021 vs 2020 with over 230 million attacks in just the first half of 2022. Our current systems weren’t designed to handle encrypted traffic – decrypting incoming traffic and looking through it for potential threats takes a lot of resources, time, and money. IT professionals lack insights into threats that originate in encrypted traffic and don’t have the tools they need to detect, intercept, and analyze threats. With over 90% of all web traffic as of 2021 becoming encrypted, this problem is getting nothing but larger every day.

Network detection and response systems, or NDR systems, use AI to identify threats instead of using time consuming and complex decryption systems. This is done by the AI building a fingerprint of all assets and behavior patterns, which it uses to monitor for anomalous usage. Without the need for decryption, NDR systems are able to respond to threats faster, not add nearly as much latency to existing systems, and help prevent attack escalation if anything gets through.
