One of the most difficult parts of getting ready for a residential move is trying to pack your closet. With so many fragile pieces of clothing and accessories, it can be all too easy to inadvertently destroy something if you aren’t careful.
1- Go Through Your Closet First
Moving day isn’t the time to try to pair down your wardrobe. You should go through your closet on a day when you aren’t in a rush. As you are going through each item, you should really think about whether or not you like the item enough that you actually want to move it.
2- Set Aside Clothing To Wear For The Days Leading Up To Your Move
A lot of people wait until the last minute to pack their closets because they don’t want to risk not having anything to wear leading up to moving day. You can keep this from happening by pulling out several outfits you can wear. This will allow you to not have to worry about trying to find something to wear with all of the chaos of moving going on, and you can get a jump start on packing up the rest of your closet.
3- Only Use Small To Medium Boxes
Clothes can make boxes heavier than you expected. Because of this, you shouldn’t try to cram everything into a big box. Even if you are going to hire full moving services, you can still make things a lot easier for them by only packing your clothing in small and medium boxes.
4- Sort Items Beforehand
It may be tempting to just throw everything into boxes, but you will find yourself having to spend hours on end sorting everything once you get to your new home. This is why you should take the time to sort your items beforehand.
5- Don’t Pack Dirty Clothes
You probably don’t want to have to deal with washing clothes right up until the day you move. However, you also don’t want to pack dirty clothes either. This is because you may not have time to wash these clothes right away, and they might wind up growing mold or mildew.
6- Use Wardrobe Boxes To Hang Clothes
It can be quite time-consuming to have to take your clothes off of hangers to pack them. This is why it’s a good idea to use wardrobe boxes to hang clothes when you are moving.
7- Leave Clothes In the Dressers
There really is no reason to take clothes out of the dresser before you move them. Just make sure you wrap the dresser in bubble wrap before you try to move it to ensure that the drawers don’t come out.
8- Label Each Boxes With The Specific Contents
If you don’t label your moving boxes properly, it can be difficult to find what you need in a hurry. You can keep this from happening by labeling each box with specific contents. While you don’t have to list everything, you should be able to tell what types of items are in the box without having to open it.
